Principles
Seven threads and themes that I continue to obsess with and embrace.
Festina Lente (affrettati lentamente) — Take your time, but do it with urgency. Rush carefully. The balance between speed and thoughtfulness.
Cautiously Optimistic — Yes, before no. It's way too easy to be default-pessimistic. Start from a place of possibility.
Endless Curiosity — "I want to stay as close on the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center." — Kurt Vonnegut. Always exploring, always learning, always questioning.
Give, give, give, give, give, get — Add as much value as you can prior to making an "ask." Play the long game. Build relationships through generosity, not transactions.
Engineering Serendipity — "Engineering serendipity is this idea that we can help people come across unexpected but helpful connections at a better than random rate." — Ethan Zuckerman, MIT Professor. Create spaces where good things can happen.
Learning in Public — A major motivator for building this site is to start sharing my thoughts and learnings more publicly. Share the journey, not just the destination.
Close The Loop — Always follow-up. Do what you say you will. Reliability builds trust, and trust is everything.
Connect The Dots — There is nothing better than connecting people who you know will become good friends or colleagues. Be a bridge, create networks, facilitate connections.
